Become a certified expert in wild mushrooms of Quebec! This intensive three-day training experience includes two days of classroom instruction and one full-day field excursion, designed for outdoor enthusiasts, future guides, and entrepreneurs who want to safely harvest and sell wild mushrooms.

Key Skills and Outcomes

Guaranteed Safety: Master the identification of toxic species to ensure safe foraging. (A 100% score is required on the exam for questions regarding poisonings.)
Commercial Expertise: Understand regulations, handling, conservation, and sales strategies for wild mushrooms in the marketplace.
Essential Practice: Participate in a classroom practical identification workshop and benefit from a full-day field excursion included (2026 season).
Comprehensive Knowledge: In-depth study of edible, gourmet, and medicinal species of Northeastern North America.

Cost: $350. This includes the 2-day class and one excursion, which must be chosen from the 2026 activity calendar
Trainers: Biologist, certified trainer of mushroom gatherers, assisted by specialists in related fields.

Participants: Participants who enjoy the outdoors and hiking, want to pick and sell wild mushrooms and/or want to practice mycotourism. Note: Basic knowledge of French is advisable.
Dates: Saturday and Sunday August 29 and 30 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm + one day excursion selected from the available options on the 2026 activity calendar. 
Location: A conference room near Mycoboutique's shop.

Preliminary program

Day 1: Theory, Safety, and Identification

The first day covers the foundational science, ecology, and essential safety knowledge.

  • The Fungi Kingdom, Ecological Role & Sustainable Foraging 9:15-10:30 am 
  • Identification: Poisonings & Allergies 10:30-11:30 am 
  • Good Practices & Regulations 11:30 am -12:30 pm
  • Identification: Morphology and Characteristics 1:30-2:30 pm 
  • Practical Identification Workshop (identification keys with provided specimens) 2:30-3:30 pm
  • Gastronomical Species of Northeastern North America 3:30-4:00 pm

Day 2: Species, Commerce, and Certification

The second day focuses on specific species, sales logistics, and earning certification.

  • Edible Species 9:00-10:00 am 
  • Medicinal Species and their Uses 10:15-11:30 am 
  • Field Safety and Insurance 11:30 am-12:30 pm 
  • Handling, Conservation, and Sales 1:30-3:00 pm
  • Final Exam and Q&A 3:00-4:00 pm

Day 3 : Field trip - selected an excursion from the available options on the 2026 activity calendar.

A certificate confirms attendance and completion of the exam; all questions regarding toxicity should be correctly answered (100%).
